Redirects via IFRAME only

Asked by: StephenL 388 views User Questions

I have a Flash banner that I was given that behaves strangely (it has the clickTAG code in it).

If it is place in an IFRAME then it will redirect to where ever I indicated in Advertserve.

If it is not in an IFRAME, then nothing happens when it is clicked on.

Any idea what the designer may have done wrong and I should have him change?

(I just noticed that he compiled it in Flash 8. Could this be the problem).

I made a few modifications (and I don’t have time to test them one by one to see exactly which one did it), but I am 95% sure that the main modification that resolved the problem is that I took a Hex Editor and changed the version number of the Flash from 8 to 6 (the fourth byte).

I don’t know if this will affect the way it is viewed (though I had no problem so far), but it seems to have allowed the clickTAG to work not in iframe mode.

I’ve never heard of anything like this before, so I’m not exactly sure what the problem could be. When you actually click on the ad, it is entirely handled by Flash and then it redirects to the ad server so it can track the clicks. So, if the click event isn’t firing, it has to be some kind of coding glitch in the ActionScript for the Flash ad.

As far as I can tell the only actionscript in there when I was done was the clickTAG script.
The original coder may have made a mistake, but I don’t know.
