Current vs. New Page

1) Besides embedded within the FLASH code itself, is there a way to select whether a click on the Flash ad opens a new window or within the same one?

All my ads have _top in the embedded clickTAG code and I want to start using _blank, but I don’t want to have to start reprogramming and reloading all my ads.

2) Also, I asked this before and want to know if anything has changed.

Is there a likelyhood that the _blank ads will be blocked by Popup blockers, or has that been resolved.

3) I’m also curious if other people are using _blank with the Flash and what kind of reactions are they getting.

    By the way, I’ve come across the following 2 tidbits:

    1. Insert the clickTAG command only into the GetURL action
    Only the clickTAG command is included in the getURL action and saved within the Flash single-movie creative.
    a. Use the syntax in Example 1 to code your getURL action within the Flash creative. Please note that the standard method of using clickTAG in a getURL command within a Flash animation is to use:
    on (release) {
    getURL (_root.clickTAG, “_blank”);
    }
    When the user clicks and then releases on the button the getURL command is activated and a new window is opened. Do not use on (press) instead of on (release), for example:
    on (press) {
    getURL (_root.clickTAG, “_blank”);
    }
    This will cause Pop-up blockers to be triggered.

    and

    2: Users with Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer with Pop-up Blocker set on High filter level will not be able to open target=_blank in flash-files. Use target=_top instead.

    I just tested 2 with the Popup blocker set to high and they are correct, it does block it (while on medium it doesn’t).

    The question is, how many people tend to put their popup blockers on high?

    Unfortunately, that is what you have to do since the target frame is embedded in the Flash file.

    Yes, we warn of this in our user manual: http://www.advertpro.com/docs/1.0/html/manual/clicktrack.html#flash

    3) I’m also curious if other people are using _blank with the Flash and what kind of reactions are they getting.

    I will leave that question to other users :)

    on (release) {
    getURL (_root.clickTAG, “_blank”);
    }

    Do not use this code either. It is insecure and open to malicious JavaScript injection attacks. Use the code that we (and Adobe/Macromedia) recommend:

    on (release) {
    if (clickTAG.substr(0,5) == “http:”) {
    getURL(clickTAG, “_top”);
    }
    }

    You can find that code here too: http://www.advertpro.com/docs/1.0/html/manual/clicktrack.html#flash

    This little program allows you to edit the clickTags (including the addition of _blank) in compiled flash files. I use it regularly and it works as advertised.
