Targeting on text ads

Asked by: michael 617 views API / Integration

I set up a campaign with a text ad as media. I generated the code using the wizard and added the the keywords parameter:

<br /><!-- BEGIN ADVERTPRO CODE BLOCK --><br /><br /><SCRIPT language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"><br /><!--<br />document.write('<SCR'+'IPT src="http://.../advertpro/servlet/view/text/javascript/zone?zid=29&pid=0&keywords=foo&random='+Math.floor(89999999*Math.random()+10000000)+'&millis='+new Date().getTime()+'" language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"></SCR'+'IPT>');<br />//--><br /></SCRIPT><br /><br /><!-- END ADVERTPRO CODE BLOCK --><br />

I only want to display the ad when a certain keyword is sent. I tried the following keywords in “Targeted” field: +”Bar”, +Bar, Bar (only one of them per try).

The ad always showed up even though the submited keyword is foo. If I add foo to the “Blocked” list the ad doesn’t show up.

What is the problem?

    Edit the campaign and select Delivery Options from the Change View drop down menu. You want to change Keyword Only to Yes. What happens when that’s set to no is, if no campaigns in the zone match any keywords, it allows the campaign to fill in and be displayed. We really need to make the default yes there; I’m going to hunt down the RFE in our issue tracker for that and bump it up in priority right now :)
