Advertiser Competitor Guard Not Working?

Asked by: dimemag 422 views User Questions

Today we got an angry email from one of our clients saying that their banner was running on the same page as a competitor’s banner. This is puzzling because I defined these two advertisers as competitors in our advertserve admin…I just double checked and they are both listed as eachother’s competitor. The problem was repeated by someone else in our office, so what gives? Is there another step we need to take to ensure that our competing advertisers campaigns remain automated yet separate?

Thanks…

Are either one of these campaigns set up as defaults? It is possible for a default campaign to be shown even if it competes with another advertiser. You should avoid settings campaigns from advertisers who have competitor conditions as defaults.

Where can you see if it’s set as default? I haven’t heard of a default campaign before.

Default campaigns are set in zones. Edit a zone and select Campaign Assignments from the Change View drop down. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page where you see a list of every campaign assigned to the zone. Each campaign has a check box in the Default column, which if that’s checked makes the campaign function as a default.

For banner zones, there are also size defaults. These are used in the event no default campaign is selected for a zone. You can review those if you go to Settings > Sizes, edit a size, and select Attributes from the Change View drop down menu.

Thanks Mike. I’ll give that a try.
