Publishers vs Groups

Asked by: redbob 714 views User Questions

I publish several websites and each has a different set of advertisers and zones although there is some advertiser crossover. Your manual says it’s better to use groups to separate the website zones rather than setting up different publisher accounts. What are the advantages of using groups and where would I use the publisher accounts?

By creating a group for each web site, you will be able to easily pull up a report for each web site or the zones that belong to them.

You also get the same benefits from publisher accounts. The difference is that a publisher can log in and be restricted to viewing reports for their own zones. You would only need that if people other than you were the publishers.

OK thanks. If I set things up in groups now and some time in the future sold or hired an administrator for one of the websites … would it be possible to limit him/her to only that site or would I have to redo the setup and make him a publisher?

Well, that would be reason to go with the publisher setup in advance. You would have to redo the banner tags if you switched to a publisher setup later. Note that you can still use groups with publishers, though it would be somewhat redundant.

OK, I’m going to play with that a bit. I presume the administrater can see all of each publishers reports?

Thanks for the quick replies as always Mike.

Yes, the administrator would be able to see all publisher reports.
