AdBrite Text Ads

Asked by: matt 673 views Third Party Ads

I’m serving text ads from Adbrite with AdvertPro, and the code they give you is in two parts.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://adbrite.com/mb/text_group.php?sid=xx&amp;newwin=xx&br=1"></script><br /><br /><a style="text-decoration:underline;" target="_top" href="http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/purchase_form.php?opid=xxx&amp;afsid=xxx">Your Ad Here</a>

If I put those two parts in the Media Attributes Content box as is above, it comes out with the plain link above the JS generated text ads. Which is the opposite of what I expect.

Does anyone else use Adbrite and see this problem? Or can shed some light on this?

I’ve seen this happen with AdBrite before and never did figure out the problem. You might be able to work around this by using CSS absolute positioning. Not sure what size this ad is, but assuming it’s 120×600 skyscaper size try this:

    <br /><script type="text/javascript" src="http://adbrite.com/mb/text_group.php?sid=xx&amp;newwin=xx&br=1"></script><br /><br /><a style="text-decoration:underline; <span style="color: Red;"><strong>position: absolute; top: 600px;</strong></span>" target="_top" href="http://www.adbrite.com/mb/commerce/purchase_form.php?opid=xxx&amp;afsid=xxx">Your Ad Here</a><br />

It’s odd, it only happens in IE (I’m using IE6). In Firefox it looks fine.

When I look at the generated source of the page in FF the link is after the text ads (correct), whereas in IE the link is before the text ads (incorrect). So, trying to fix it with CSS becomes a pain because it breaks the other browsers.

Does this have something to-do with combining JS with an HTML link?

I suspect it has something to do with nested layers of JavaScript causing things to be inserted into the DOM in the incorrect order.

It’s interesting that you’re actually seeing the order is not correct in page source code though. Could you provide me with a link to your test page? I’d like to take a closer look at this. You can e-mail the link to support@renegadeinternet.com if you don’t want to post it here.
