Flash Errors

Asked by: JasonB 1029 views Upgrades

Hi,

I just upgraded to 1.0.9225. After the upgrade, when I try to go into a flash banner ad’s media attributes I get:

500 / INTERNAL SERVER ERROR
Error Information
The request could not be completed due to an unexpected internal error encountered by the server.

Error Time
Wed Feb 27 09:51:47 EST 2008

I’m not seeing any errors in either the tomcat or the advertpro logs. I can get to the media attributes of other ad types.

The page I’m trying to hit is: http:///advertpro/servlet/control/media/edit?action=attributes/flash&save=false

Please help!

Go to Settings > Expert > Logging and change the Logging Level to Warning. Then try to access the Flash attributes again and you should get an error in the AdvertPRO error_log. Do not leave the logging level set like that — it can produce a huge amount of data in the logs, so change it back to critical afterwards.

Also, the latest version is actually 1.0.9234 — you may want to download that: https://services.renegadeinternet.com/download

I went through the download link yesterday and was sent the link to 1.0.9225. Will they send me the link for 1.0.9234 today?

Were there any other errors in the log? That one is not a control panel error, but rather a warning from the ad server. It’s saying that you have an active zone [Home Page Flash (ID: 53)] with no active campaign assignments. However, it’s actually generated from an <IMG> tag which would be invoked by a visitor with JavaScript disabled, so you may not just have any graphics banners in that zone targetable to that visitor — in which case they would have seen a default ad.

If there are no other errors, there could be a problem with a compiled JSP file which you can usually correct by doing the following:

    1) Stop Tomcat

    2) Delete the contents of the /usr/local/tomcat/work directory

    3) Start Tomcat

Also, yes, the download service will deliver you a link for 1.0.9234 if you request a new link today. That was a mistake on our part. We goofed and didn’t update our download service with the new version until after the release announcement went out, though our tracking only indicated there was one download before we fixed it so I guess that was you :)

    Hi Mike,

I’ve double checked the logs and we do not get any other errors. Just FYI I’m running Apache on a Windows 2003 machine to serve the ads. My Tomcat directory is C:Tomcat. The directory you had suggested removing is for a *nux machine. Can you tell me which directory would correspond on a Windows box?

Thanks for the update on my download as well.

If you’re on Windows, it would be the C:/Tomcat/work directory that you want to delete the contents from.

Thanks Mike. I went ahead and downloaded the new version 1.0.9234. Since you mentioned I have to stop and restart Apache I’m going to be waiting until tomorrow morning. I figure I can install the upgrade then remove the directory and then turn it back on at the same time. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    Hi Mike,

Everything seems to have gone well this morning and the Media Attributes tab is once again working.

Thanks for your help in resolving this!
