Flash Banner won't "click"

Asked by: Ric 552 views User Questions

I’ve posted a swf banner and believe that I’ve made all of the settings correctly in the ad server, but obviously, I’m missing something.

I set the “ClickTAG” URL to http://www.gold-n-touchlandscaping.com, but when I serve up the flash banner, it’s not ‘clickable’ on the website…

Did I miss something?

Thanks – Ric.

    Are you sure the banner contains the clickTAG code as it should?

    on (release) {
    getURL (clickTAG, “_blank”);

    If the clickTAG is named for example clickTag instead of clickTAG, it wont work. But you could then change the name of the ClickTAG Parameter under Media Attributes. If your not sure about what it is named in the flash it’s an idea to try with ClickTAG, ClickTag, clickTag, clicktag, clictag etc…

    How do I know what the underlying code is on the banner? I have the .swf file that the client sent me, and I have Flash Professional CS3, but I can’t figure out where to find the code at…

    You need the .fla source file to open it with CS3.

    If all you have is the .swf file, you could use a decompiler such as ASV: http://www.buraks.com/asv/ to open it and view the code.

    Really though, all you’re going to see is that the advertiser put in the wrong code. The way this stuff works is pretty simple. You have a button in the Flash banner with a few lines of ActionScript attached to it, so if it’s not working the button and/or the code were not implemented correctly.

    If the advertiser follows this tutorial and does exactly what it says, I guarantee the banner will work correctly: http://www.advertpro.com/docs/1.0/html/manual/flash_clicktag.html

    Thanks – I used the buraks demo and found that they put in “ClickTag”, I changed the setting for their media and hey, it works great!

    Banners exported for Flash 7 or higher will have case sensitive parameter names, so if the designer uses something other than clickTAG you need to change the parameter name in AdvertPRO as you did.

    Our documentation notes this in the Creating the Media section here: http://www.advertpro.com/docs/1.0/html/manual/clicktrack.html#flash
