Advanced boolean combinations

Asked by: michael 539 views User Questions

Let’s say I have 3 custom fields: custom1, custom2 and custom3. Custom targeting looks for “custom1 AND custom2 AND custom3″, yeah? If I want “(custom1 OR custom2) AND custom3″, am I out of luck?

Yes, the ad server only supports AND logic between fields. It does use OR logic within fields, if they have multiple values such as:
“(custom1.value1 OR custom1.value2) AND custom2 AND custom3″ You could use that capability to create a meta field combining your custom1 and custom2 vaules:

    &custom1=value1&custom2=value2&custom3=value3&custom4=value1,value2

This way if you ever wanted OR logic you could use custom4 to specify value1 and value2 are both acceptable targets.

Could be some other ways to go about it, but it’s hard to say without a concrete example of the data you are working with.
