Default Ads

If I have a campaign marked as default in the Zone’s Campaign Assignments, can I simply delete the black and white “Default” ads from media?

… or should I replace these “Default” ad media files with the files from the campaign I have marked as default?

Is one way better than the other?

Well, let me first explain that there are two types of defaults that you can set up.

One is only for banners and it’s handled at the size level. If you go to Settings > Sizes, edit any of the sizes that you use and then select Attributes from the Change View drop down. You will see a screen where you can input the Image URL and Redirect URL for the default banner, which by default is the black/white banner. Save your changes and that will be used for the default in any zones of that banner size.

For all other types, and this overrides the size default for banners, you can set one campaign as a default in each of your zones. To do that, edit a zone and select Campaign Assignments from the Change View drop down. Scroll down to the Adjust Assignments listing of the campaigns in the zone at the bottom of the page. You can make one of those campaigns the default by checking the box in the Default column to the right of it. Also, if you only want the campaign to show up as a default you can set its status to inactive there . With an active status, the campaign would run in normal rotation until it expires and then convert to a default only – a lot of people will use that to give bonus impressions to an important advertisers campaign if they happen to undersell their available inventory.

So, to answer your question, it’s not necessary to remove the black/white default from the media size because it will be overridden by the default campaign in the zone. However, you may still want to replace the black/white default. It will still be used for other zones which have no default campaign.

    Thanks, Mike!

I gave it a try and at first it seemed to roadblock everyone else. Of course I was just sitting here hitting refresh, but when I actually clicked on different links and pages, I discovered that it did the trick.

    Glad it was so simple!
