'Code Wizard' Publisher Option: Purpose?

Asked by: 461 views User Questions

Sorry for this newbie question.

In the ‘Code Wizard’ tab, what does generating code for a ‘Publisher’ do?

I am trying to understand this in the context of using the ‘Code Wizard’ for the fundamental process:

Media -> Campaign -> Zone

If you could also direct me please to the relevant section in the ‘User Manual’ I can use that for future reference.

Thanks!

    The relevant part of the user manual would be: http://www.advertpro.com/docs/1.0/html/manual/terms.html — the important parts being the definitions of publishers, groups, and zones.

    Usually only ad networks will use publishers. They set up a publisher account for each of their publishers. A publisher account can have certain themes assigned to it that describe their content. It is also possible to specify minimum CPM, CPC, CPA rates that a campaign must meet or exceed to run them. Using the combination of theme and rate targeting it’s possible to share the same zones between all of your publishers rather than having to manage separate zones for all of them which would be rather impractical if you have 100′s or 1,000′s of publishers. You can also opt-out advertisers or individual campaigns from publishers when the theme and minimum rate targeting are not precise enough.

    Some companies that operate a large number of web sites will also use publishers. However, we recommend you create separate zones if you don’t have too many web sites to manage it for more precise control over positioning. You should definitely create a group for each web site though so you can group the zones for each web site together, which enables you to generate reports by group for each web site individually. Basically groups are the same thing as publishers minus the opt-out, minimum rate targeting, and theme targeting.

    Robert,

    If you have affiliates, or other sites on which you would like to run ads, publishers, using this option puts a “publisher ID” in the code so that it can be tracked on an affiliate/publisher or site-by-site basis. Does that clear up the use?
