Inquiry: ‘XML Data Feeds’ Navigation

Asked by: 1260 views API / Integration

Per the ‘XML Data Feeds’ navigation in the ‘Custom Targeting’ section of this page:
http://demo.renegadeinternet.com/advertpro/docs/html/manual/integration.html#custom

Could you please give me specific instructions on how to navigate to ‘Settings > Basic > Custom Fields’.

It must be right in front of my eyes, but I am unable to see ‘Basic’ when I follow either of these paths:

1 Clicking the ‘SETTINGS’ icon in the header menu, or
2 After selecting a campaign, selecting ‘Campaign Settings’ in the ‘Change View’ menu.

Thank you.

Access to view/change the basic settings in the demo is not permitted.

Regarding ‘XML Data Feeds’ I’ve got the idea from the documentation “so that you can select data values to target instead of having to type them in.”

What I’m not clear on is, on one hand:

“enter the URL of an XML feed into the Field Values input box for the desired custom field.”

    And on the other hand:

“but it must adhere to the following syntax.” Which is a ‘dataset -> entry name’ list.

I think I’m missing the last step in understanding how this works. Could you please explain/reconcile the ‘enter the URL…’ point with the ‘dataset -> entry name’ syntax point?

    Thanks.

You are going to have an XML file on your server that contains something like the following:

    <?xml version="1.0"?><br />           <br /><dataset><br />   <entry name="One" value="1" /><br />   <entry name="Two" value="2" /><br />   <entry name="Three" value="3" /><br /></dataset>

Assume this is for custom field #1, you might name the file custom1.xml and put it on your server at http://www.yoursite.com/custom1.xml so that would be the URL you enter into AdvertPro for it to retrieve the XML from to obtain the field values.

It does not have to be a .xml file though. You might have a script that generates the XML dynamically from a database. As long as AdvertPro can read XML from a URL that is the only requirement.
