CPM Effective Date

Asked by: 640 views User Questions

I’d like to understand the period the CPM setting applies to.

During testing of AdvertServe before going live, I had a CPM setting of $0 for about 2 weeks up to Apr 27 for 1 campaign which had 421 views. The income rpt didn’t display [if I recall correctly] because there was no CPM.

Today Apr 28 I changed the CPM setting to $1000/CPM [for easy numbers] and the all 421 views before today had the $1000 CPM applied to them for an income of $421.

For 1 campaign, is there a way the CPM can be changed so it applies only effective the date of change?

The CPM rate applies to the lifetime of the campaign. If you need to change a rate and have it apply only to the future, the only way to do that is to create a new campaign and disable the old one.

One thing you could possibly do is reset all of your campaigns. We could purge the stats prior to Apr 28 for all of your campaigns for you. You don’t have access to do that from the AdvertServe control panel. That would delete the data for the past views so they wouldn’t affect your income reports.

By the way, at some point we are going to be revising the accounting system so that changes to campaign rates ask you if you want them to apply to the lifetime of the campaign or only going forward — just hasn’t made it to the top of our to-do list yet :)

Thanks, I primarily wanted to make sure I was using it correctly.

For short term campaigns in markets with mature pricing, it’s not a problem.

I was thinking a pricing ‘special’ for example might need to reduce the price going forward.

The ‘disable old’ and ‘create new’ is clean and works.
